LOTOS-Air BP Polska and the Olsztyn Mazury Regional Airport in Szymany signed an agreement for the supply of aviation fuels. The Gdańsk-based fuel company, currently offering aircraft refuelling services in Warsaw, Gdańsk, Katowice and Lublin, now expands its presence to Szymany.

“The airport is guaranteed access to a full range of fuel products and is the fifth location in Poland where LOTOS-Air BP Polska will offer its aviation fuels ‘at the wing tip’,” says Maciej Kowalski, President of the LOTOS-Air BP Polska Management Board.

The Olsztyn Mazury Airport will start operations in January 2016. Ultimately, LOTOS-Air BP Polska will offer two types of fuel there − Jet-A1, its main product from the Gdańsk refinery, and Avgas 100 LL, aviation gasoline from OBR, one of the largest producers in Central and Eastern Europe.

About the airport

The Olsztyn Mazury Airport is the only airport in north-eastern Poland. It is located in Szymany, about 55 km south-east of Olsztyn, and is intended mainly for flights to and from the Warmia and Masuria region. The airport is planned to serve scheduled flights, charter flights and general aviation flights, and will offer an option to refuel aircraft with Jet or Avgas 100 LL. It has a 2.5 km-long runway, with Alpa Ata and ILS navigation lighting systems installed.

The passenger terminal, whose area is approximately 7,000 m2, has separate check-in facilities for passengers arriving from or flying to Schengen area and non-Schengen countries. Its annual capacity exceeds 500,000 passengers.

“The first flights, with SprintAir to Kraków and Berlin-Tegel, will start in January. Both these routes will be served three times a week,” says Krzysztof Pawłowski, the Airport’s Sales and Marketing Director.

The airport authorities expect to add more destinations to their timetable, including other locations in Germany, as well as in the UK, Ireland and Norway. Talks are being held with several carriers flying from and to Poland.

The presence of LOTOS-Air BP Polska is a guarantee of high quality of fuels and safe refuelling procedures. It may even encourage other carriers to start operations there.

LOTOS-Air BP Polska handles plane refuelling operations at five Polish airports − in Warsaw, Gdańsk, Katowice and Lublin, and as of the beginning of 2016, its services will also be available at the Olsztyn Mazury Airport in Szymany.
