Robert Kubica has been named Personality of the Year in a vote by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, beating three famous Sebastians: Vettel, Ogier and Loeb.
Robert Kubica returned to motorsports after a serious crash, claiming the World Rally Championship title not long after. On December 7th, the driver celebrated his 29th birthday and, as if to mark the occasion, was presented with the coveted title of FIA Personality of the Year after a vote among journalists from all over the world.
Being awarded ahead of the German Formula One champion, Sebastian Vettel (crowned F1 world champion for the fourth time in a row this year) and the French kings of the WRC – current champion Sebastian Ogier and retiring long-time champion Sebastian Loeb (from 2004 to 2012) – is a major achievement for Kubica.
“I missed racing in the last two years. This year was sort of a comeback for me. Regrettably, I couldn't return to Formula One, so I decided to change disciplines and switch to rallying. I've learned a lot in WRC 2 so far, and I hope I’ll take another step forward next year. I think I’ll be able to drive WRC the whole season. Everything's going in the right direction so far,” said Kubica during the FIA gala in Paris.
