48. The Rally RACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada determined the outcome of the competition for the PWRC honours. Michał Kościuszko and Maciek Szczepaniak, who had arrived in Spain second in the classification, crashed out on special stage nine and lost their chance for the champion title. Before that unfortunate accident, the LOTOS Dynamic Rally Team did really well, taking top spots in the rally. Michał staked everything on one roll of the dice, but rallies are unpredictable and the best cannot always win.

On the final round of the World Championship, 12 teams hoped to score PWRC points, but only the following were within sight of the World Champion title: Michał Kościuszko (Mitsubishi) of the LOTOS Dynamic Rally Team, Mexico's Benito Guerra (Mitsubishi), Ukraine's Valeriy Gorban(Mitsubishi), Argentina's Marcos Ligato (Subaru) and Indonesia'a Suchan Aksa. The LOTOS Dynamic Rally Team, ranked second in the PWRC standings after eight special stages, crashed out on stage three of Saturday's first loop run on asphalt roads in Catalonia. For Michał Kościuszko and Maciek Szczepaniak it was the end of dreams of the championship honours in the 2012 season. However, under the Rally 2 system, the team was back in the fight for points during Sunday's special stages.

The sixth place in the rally and eight points earned Michał and Maciek the fourth spot in the overall standings.

The first place in the Rally and the PWRC title in the 2012 season went to Benito Guerra. Marcos Ligato came in second in the rally, gaining 18 points, and finished the season in the runner-up spot. Subhan Aksa was third in the rally and scored 15 points, which gave him the fifth place in the final standings.

In the 2012 season, two victories in Rally Monte Carlo and Rally Germany earned the LOTOS Dynamic Rally Team the second place in terms of the number of wins in the PWRC classification, after Benito Guerra with three victories to his name. Despite fierce fight on the final day of Rally Catalunya, the LOTOS Dynamic Rally Team was short of four points to become the second Vice-Champion and repeat last year's success.

- This has been an exciting year. We've tasted victory and defeat. The year was full of events and I competed with many talented drivers, which made the championship very exciting and the competition very equal. Already in Argentina, after the engine failure we knew that the fight for the title would not be easy. We won Rally Germany and after the run in Sardinia we advanced to the second position in the ranking. In Catalonia we were close to victory but we fell out of the track. Unfortunately, such things happen when you bet everything on one card. I would like to thank our main Partner, LOTOS Paliwa, and the entire team who were working hard throughout the whole season. I hope that next year we will be able to enter World Rally Championship with a faster car, said Michał Kosciuszko at the finish line of the Catalonia Rally, the final round of WRC in 2012.

The 2012 season is over. We have finished the Rally Catalunya, the final round of this year’s championship. We came here to compete for the top podium position. We took up the gauntlet but finished in the fourth place. Unfortunately, it happens that not everything goes as planned. I wish to thank the entire team, as well as our Partners, including LOTOS Paliwa with the LOTOS Dynamic fuel brand and the entire LOTOS Group, for accompanying us throughout the season, said Maciek Szczepaniak.

In the 2012 season, two victories in Rally Monte Carlo and Rally Germany earned the LOTOS Dynamic Rally Team the second place in terms of the number of wins in the PWRC classification, after Benito Guerra with three victories to his name.
