LOTOS Kolej - the second largest railway operator in Poland in terms of transport performance and a leader in the transport of dangerous goods - is expanding its fleet with the Vectron, the most modern multi-system locomotive in Europe. The vehicle was purchased with support from the European Union funds through the Center for EU Transport Projects for the implementation of intermodal transport. The locomotive is planned to be delivered in 2021.

- The purchase of the Vectron locomotive was carried out as part of a project co-financed by the European Union, with very good cooperation with the Center for EU Transport Projects. Provision of transport services at a high level requires a reliable traction fleet, and such is certainly the Vectron locomotive. We have experience in operating this locomotive, which is characterized by good traction parameters, is easy to use, providing drivers with high comfort and work safety - emphasizes Anatol Kupryciuk, President of the Management Board of LOTOS Kolej.

Vectrons are the most advanced universal locomotives on the European market, with a modular design that allows easy adaptation to the requirements of use and the specificity of driving in different countries and different operating conditions. The locomotive was created with a view to carrying out various transport tasks. The basic assumption was the efficiency and profitability of performing traction tasks in domestic and cross-border traffic, both passenger and freight in Europe.

In Poland, over 50 Vectron locomotives have been purchased by PKP Cargo, DB Cargo Polska, Cargounit (Industrial Division) and Laude Smart Intermodal. LOTOS Kolej has already joined this group.

The new Vectron MS locomotive for LOTOS Kolej has a capacity of 6.4 MW, is equipped with the ETCS system compliant with the current specifications (Baseline 3) and has a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The locomotive is approved for Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary, and the Vectron platform vehicles are able to operate in as many as 20 European countries.

The purchase of the Vectron locomotive was carried out as part of the project "Purchase of modern rolling stock by LOTOS Kolej", co-financed by the European Union.

- LOTOS Kolej, thanks to the acquisition of locomotives and platform-carriages, has a chance to increase its share in the growing market of intermodal transport. In addition, it is important for us that we will be able to carry freight also outside Poland, on international routes - adds Jaromir Falandysz, Vice President of the Management Board of LOTOS Kolej.

The locomotive was purchased with the use of EU funds through the Center for EU Transport Projects (CUPT) to support the development of intermodal transport. The purpose of the competition for the Development of Maritime Transport, Inland Waterways and Multimodal Connections, organized by CEUTP, is to subsidize entities under the Priority III Axis measure, so as to significantly increase the development of the TEN-T road network and the multimodal transport itself.
