Even though Robert Kubica was in the lead after four stages, in the end he could not take it to the podium – and not because of Corsica’s meandering routes, but due to a car failure. Kubica, whose official partner is Grupa LOTOS, withdrew from the race following a fuel pump failure after the fifth stage.

Robert Kubica and his co-driver, Maciek Baran, ranked second after the first three stages of the rally, losing less than 30 seconds to Craig Breen and Paul Nagle. During the fourth stage, their team punctured a tyre and the Polish crew took the lead.

Unfortunately, with only a few kilometres between him and the finish line, Robert Kubica had to pull over during the fifth stage with a fuel system failure. After several minutes, he managed to reach the finish line, but with no chances of entering subsequent stages.

In addition, Kubica could not participate in the SS held on Friday, which means that, according to the ERC rules, the Polish crew could not be listed in the rally’s general classification. The next day, the Polish driver and his team decided to forgo the second part of the Rally Corsica. “We had very little time and did not know where the problem was,” Kubica explained.

The Rally Corsica was ultimately won by Bryan Bouffier.

Robert Kubica will be back behind the wheel on May 30th 2013, which is the starting date of Rally Acropolis. The Greek rally, which is the sixth round of the World Rally Championship, will end on June 2nd 2013.
