Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Jarek Baran of the LOTOS Rally Team have won their second consecutive victory with the Wisła Rally, part of the 70th Polish Rally Championship. With a full set of points, Kajetanowicz and his co-driver Baran have gained a considerable 30-point-plus advantage over the other drivers in the General Classification.
In the majority of the special stages of the first loop of the Wisła Rally, Kajetanowicz and Baran were the fastest of all the drivers. The LOTOS Rally Team scored a victory in the Zamarski test stage as well as in the opening and closing Cisownica special stage, comprising the first part of the second round of the PRC. The four special stages brought an over 15-second advantage to the current Polish Champions.
A mostly unfamiliar course requiring a high degree of focus and quite unusual weather conditions for the end of May did not stop the dynamic Kajetanowicz-Baran duo from winning 5 of the 7 special stages held on the first day of the Rally, and the Polish champions' results delighted the fans gathered along the route. Interestingly, it was also the first time in his professional career that Kajetanowicz had taken part in a PRC qualifier so close to home.
Driving exceptionally quickly, Kajetanowicz and Baran were also unrivalled on the first loop of Sunday's driving. Winning all the special stages, they took a comfortable lead in the General Classification, which they maintained on the second day of the rally too.
Only a strange twist of fate could have put a stop to their winning streak, but fortunately the team were spared any unexpected occurrences, and they went on to win two straight rounds of the LOTOS RSMP in a row. With a full set of points, they now have over a more than 30-point advantage over the other crews and have taken the lead in the General Classification.
Almost overlapping with Kajetan's home in Ustronie, the course of the Wisła Rally proved fortunate for its winners this year. Both the drivers and their team performed exceptionally well on what is commonly held to be one of the most demanding special stages in Poland. After the race, Kajetanowicz claimed that the almost 3-minute lead over his rivals, as witnessed by his neighbours and friends, some of whom were also there for his early performances, had become one of the most significant events of his whole career.
"My father used to take me to see this rally. Competing in it now and winning it myself is an amazing experience. As a young fan of rallying I was flushed watching it, and I'm thrilled that 11 years later I'm actually in the PRC," Kajto commented after the rally. "What I feel now is what I usually do in the most significant moments of my life. This is what this rally means to me. It's a childhood dream come true, and it's not just childish sentiment that makes me happy now, either. Rather, I saw for myself how many rally fans were cheering along the special stages, at the servicing station and at the finish line of the rally. I have a truly wonderful team which works hard and I know how much effort it takes to prepare our car so that Jarek and I can drive it fast. It was a pure pleasure to put myself to the test and drive in difficult weather conditions along these narrow, winding roads. Both the weather and the roads made the driving experience unpredictable," Kajetanowicz concluded.
"It is really difficult to drive so close to your home town," added Jarek Baran. "From the very beginning I was aware that our results in this rally would be of great importance to Kajetan, so I'm happy that we managed to gain a full set of points. The older fans will know how special this rally was to him. The entire LOTOS Rally Team did a first-rate job ensuring that our performance in the rally went smoothly. And thank you to everyone who cheered for us over the weekend."
Kajetan and Jarek are driving the 2013 season with the support of their strategic partner, the LOTOS Rally Team – Grupa LOTOS. Other partners supporting the Polish Champions are LOTOS Oil, producers of LOTOS Dynamic fuels, Driving Experience, and CUBE.ITG.
