The Poles achieved an unprecedented result in the World Rally Championship. For the first time ever, two Polish drivers were in the top ten of the WRC rally. With an over four-minute advantage, Robert Kubica won in the WRC 2 category of Rally Sardegna, taking the ninth place in the general classifications. Robert Kubica and Maciek Baran took the lead already after the first loop of Rally Sardegna, gaining an almost one-minute advantage. Neither the dust stirred up by the preceding teams nor a minor slippage on the third special stage prevented them from being successful.
As a result, on Saturday – the last day of the rally, the Polish team could focus on maintaining their advantage and reaching the finish line safely. For all that, they managed to win the other eight special stages in the WRC category and gain a clear four-minute advantage over their competitors.
Thanks to such a good time, Robert and Maciek gained the second victory in a row and the fourth position in the WRC 2 classification, despite taking part in only three out of the seven WRC rallies held to date. Moreover, the Polish team has also secured the ninth position in the general classifications of the rally and gained two points in the highest WRC category.
200 percent of the plan
Also the LOTOS Rally Team members scored another six points in the final classification. After a number of serious failures of their Mini WRC, Michał Kościuszko and Maciek Szczepaniak set their sights on reaching the finish line of Rally Sardegna in their new Ford Fiesta WRC, tested only a couple of days earlier.
Their baptism of fire during the first day of the rally was successful. Already after the first day of the event, the LOTOS Rally Team ranked in the Top 10: in the eighth position. Having changed several settings, they went up to the seventh position after the second day. They concluded the rally in the same position, losing just 0.9 second to the team classified on the sixth place.
Robert Kubica's next start in the WRC 2013 will be the Finland Rally scheduled for early August. Three weeks later, he will participate in the Germany Rally, which will also be the next event in Michał Kościuszko's new calendar. Earlier, at the beginning of July, Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Jarek Baran will take part in the Karkonosze Rally, another round of the 2013 LOTOS Polish Rally Championship.
