“All my life I’ve been living near the refinery, so when I finally got the chance to explore it, I didn’t think twice. I also came to confirm my belief that the plant is safe, and I was right,” said Barbara, a resident of Stogi and one of several hundred people living near the refinery who accepted our invitation to come and visit on our recent Open Day.

The LOTOS Gdańsk refinery organised the Open Day last Saturday, for residents of Stogi, Przeróbki, Rudniki, Górki Zachodnie, Wyspa Sobieszewska and other nearby areas. Visitors were invited to tour the refinery and educational games were prepared for their children. The tour guides described the state-of-art crude oil processing units, explained the role of the computerised control room overseeing the crude processing, presented the huge tanks and spoke about the best environmental protection safety measures employed by the Company.

“We are committed to integrating with the local residents, and this is but one of the many initiatives of our CSR Strategy,” commented Jowita Twardowska, Communication and CSR Director. “We organised this Open Day to teach our neighbours about the workings of the refinery and about our safety and environmental protection mechanisms. We're also thinking about organising a similar event for our employees and their families, and I think that next spring we will open the doors to all interested persons,” she added.

Barbara from Stogi concluded that, “You can tell just by looking that in the last few years the refinery has been investing in modern equipment.”
