Kajetan Kajetanowicz and Jarek Baran of the LOTOS Rally Team have won every round of the LOTOS Polish Rally Championship, and sealed their magnificent performance in the 2013 season by coming top of the LOTOS 70th Rally Poland. Meanwhile, Michał Kościuszko and Maciek Szczepaniak finished the rally in fourth place, while Robert Kubica and Maciej Baran, whose lost their front right wheel during the Saturday special section, never reached the service park. After a detailed inspection of the car revealed further damage to the engine of their Citroen DS3 RRC, the Kubica-Baran team decided to withdraw from the competition.
Being his third victory in four years at the Rally Poland and the first domestic title of the four held by Kajetanowicz so far, his success is a remarkable accomplishment. Kajetan also joins the elite group of only five drivers who, in the 70 years of the Rally Poland’s history, have won the competition three or more times. The crowd was especially enthusiastic when Kajetan was presented with the most prestigious award in the rally – the Colin McRae Flat Out Trophy. Bestowed by Jean Pierre Nicolas for the promoter of the European Rally Championship, the award names Kajetanowicz the driver with the most impressive skills during this year’s ERC.
At the finish line, the drivers shared some of their thoughts:
Kajetan Kajetanowicz: “This is surely one of the most beautiful and exciting days of my life. I would like to give my thanks to everyone from the LOTOS Rally Team, to our reliable Partners, and all our fans! The collective work and support of our friends has added up to something that we can celebrate today. The dreams I aimed to achieve several years ago have yet again come true. This is an unbelievable feeling! Thank you all.”
Jarek Baran: “I’m very happy, this was a really extraordinary weekend. A fourth win in the Rally Poland and the third with Kajetan – it’s something fantastic. We’ve got a great team and great support from Grupa LOTOS.”
Michał Kościuszko: “My participation in this rally was hanging by a thread, and to the last moment it wasn’t certain that we were going to compete. For me, just the fact that we were able to participate and drive the whole rally with my serious injury is a success. I would like to heartily congratulate Kajtek and Jarek, who by winning the Rally Poland have managed to win another championship and set a wonderful driving pace. I’d also congratulate Grupa LOTOS for the sensational, world-top sporting event, which they’ve organised here for the fans and competitors.”
Maciek Szczepaniak: “I’m happy that Michał’s back endured this rally’s difficulties. Two weeks ago we weren’t sure if we were going to participate. The rally was, as we expected, very exciting, with fighting until the last special stage that electrified the spectators. I congratulate Kajetan and Jarek on their win in the Rally Poland, and on being crowned Polish Champions.”
Grupa LOTOS thanks you all for your support for our teams!
