'Transformation – how to manage changes responsibly?' was the motto of the Fifth Responsible Energy Conference held at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw last Monday.

The meeting was attended by the signatories to the Declaration for Sustainable Development of the Energy Sector, which was signed by Grupa LOTOS in 2010. The Responsible Energy Conference is an annual opportunity to summarise the steps taken by the signatories and discuss the matters most important to the energy sector. The central idea of this year's conference was change management, mainly in energy sector companies.

Zbigniew Paszkowicz, Vice-President, Chief Exploration and Production Officer, represented Grupa LOTOS at the conference. During the panel ‘How to manage changes effectively – the experience of business and administration leaders', Mr Paszkowicz stressed the role of skilful change management in organisations as a factor contributing to their competitive edge and economic stability. He also emphasised the role of the 10+ Programme, whose ongoing implementation at Grupa LOTOS has enrolled the Company on the list of best European refineries. Mr Paszkowicz further underlined that the Efficiency and Growth 2013–2015 programme, whose primary aim is to enable implementation of the objectives set out in the Strategy and Directions of Growth for the LOTOS Group until 2020, is a response to the dynamically changing economic environment.

“A major challenge faced by Grupa LOTOS is to strengthen the Polish energy sector's security. The LOTOS Group's Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy for 2012–2015 also defines this as an objective,” continued Mr Paszkowicz. “Examples of this are our consistent development of the production potential of the Baltic Sea and the LOTOS Group's work with PGNiG on prospective onshore licences in northern Poland since 2012,“ said Zbigniew Paszkowicz.

The Responsible Energy Conference is an event run by PGNiG with PwC Polska, Forum Odpowiedzialnego Biznesu (Responsible Business Forum), and ThinkTank magazine. The guiding idea of the conference is to enhance awareness of sustainable development's importance, as well as to promote best practices among representatives of the energy sector, university students and representatives of public administration and NGOs. The Conference was held under the honorary patronage of Janusz Piechociński, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Economy, Włodzimierz Karpiński, Minister of the State Treasury, and the Energy Regulatory Office.
