During the formal presentation of 'Splendor Gedanensis', the City of Gdańsk Award in culture, held on Friday March 14th, Grupa LOTOS received the 2013 title of Patron of Gdańsk Culture for its support as a strategic partner of projects run by the Baltic Opera House in Gdańsk.

The trophy was collected on behalf of the Company by Jowita Twardowska, Communication & CSR Director at Grupa LOTOS. “This distinction is very precious to us because we regard cultural institutions as a vital investment in the region's development,” said Ms Twardowska. “We partner with those that offer high quality art, and the Baltic Opera House is definitely one of them. Our activities in the area of culture and arts are an expression of our Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy”.

In this year's edition of the award, 15 candidates were nominated in arts and cultural promotion, and two candidates – in cultural patronage. The tradition of rewarding creators of culture in Gdańsk dates back to the 1970s. In August 1973, the then President of the Board of the National City Council, Jan Nikołajew, announced the establishment of the City of Gdańsk Award, which has been presented yearly ever since, with its name changed to 'Splendor Gedanensis' in 2004.

Concurrently with awards for creators of culture, the City also grants the title of Patron of Gdańsk Culture, an honorary distinction for sponsors of the Gdańsk culture.
