LOTOS Tank, a company of the LOTOS Group, has launched direct sale of aviation fuel at the Warsaw Chopin Airport. In this way this largest airport in Poland has gained another alternative supplier of fuel, which has a positive effect on the security and efficiency of its operation.

Market activity

“This is an important event and a  success for LOTOS,” said Maciej Szozda, Vice-President of the Management Board and Chief Commercial Officer of Grupa LOTOS S.A. “This is only natural that, being a producer and supplier of top quality fuels, we want to establish a presence at the largest airport in our country. The location is also a great foothold for further expansion and development of direct supplies of jet fuel throughout Poland.”

“Commencement of deliveries by the second large supplier of fuel is an  event of great importance for the Warsaw Chopin Airport. It means real competition on the fuel supply market and offers hope for price reductions and thus for increasing the attractiveness of our airport. This is what we have strived for for many years now and we are very satisfied that our efforts have proven successful,” said Michał Marzec, Director of the Warsaw Chopin Airport.

Currently, LOTOS is supplying fuel in Warsaw for Air France, KLM and TNT aircraft.  LOTOS Tank is in advanced negotiations with further prospective customers.

LOTOS Tank is also active on the Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport, where it opened a fuel terminal. It  has already served over 10 thousand aircraft.

In addition, LOTOS Tank supplies fuel to the airports in Wrocław and Rzeszów, which, however, handle the filling operations themselves.

Following implementation of the 10+ Programme, LOTOS Tank wants to markedly enhance its position on the jet fuel market. In 2012, Grupa LOTOS S.A.'s refinery in Gdańsk produced over 500 thousand tonnes of aviation fuel. To compare, in 2009 (before completion of the 10+ Programme) it was  over 350 thousand tonnes. The bulk of the jet fuel manufactured in Gdańsk comes from two Merox units, which in more or less than hour can produce approximately 60 tonnes of this type of fuel. This amount is sufficient for a Boeing 767 flight from Warsaw to Chicago.

The Warsaw Chopin Airport is the largest airport in Poland and one of the largest in Central Europe. Opened in 1934, it currently serves scheduled, chartered, general aviation and cargo flights. In 2012, its services were used by over 9.5 million passengers, representing nearly 40 per cent of Poland's total passenger traffic.  In the 2012/2013 winter season the 27 regular carriers operating at the airport offered flights to 62 airports in 36 countries across 4 continents.
