On August 14th, a special PIT STOP was organised at the LOTOS service station near the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk as part of the ‘LOTOS Safety Belt Champions’ campaign. About 50 motorists and passengers opted for an inspection, owing to which three of them avoided a certain death.

On the Thursday preceding the three-day weekend in August, the ‘LOTOS Safety Belt Champions’ PIT STOP appeared at the service station at al. Zwycięstwa 13. All those interested could have their safety belts and child safety seats inspected for free, starting from 11:00 am. The event was organised as part of the ‘LOTOS Safety Belt Champions’ CSR initiative run by Grupa LOTOS.

National Road Traffic Safety Centre experts were once again there to help motorists and passengers eliminate mistakes and improve their safety on the road. Badly fastened seat belts, improperly fitted child safety seats, or seats that were wrongly chosen in the first place, were the most common mistakes encountered by the experts. It will not be an exaggeration to say that the inspection helped three passengers save their lives. Considering the number of mistakes they made, any potential crash could have been fatal.

During inspections, our PIT STOP personnel was met by journalists from the Radio Gdańsk station. On an invitation from the Dziennik Bałtycki daily, the road traffic safety experts could also share their knowledge on general road safety precautions from the daily's ‘summer editorial office’ near the Neptune Fountain in Gdańsk. At the end of the day, child safety seats were presented as prizes to winners of competitions held in June during the ‘Stay safe – It's good to be alive!’ seminars.

The campaign has received a very positive feedback from motorists and passengers alike, who urge us to promote road safety awareness on a nation-wide scale and suggest that a road safety training be included in the programme of every driving licence course. All those who missed the chance to participate in our campaign are invited to come to our LOTOS Gdynia-Redłowo service station at Al. Zwycięstwa 165 this Saturday (23rd August) between 11.00 am and 5 pm.

To date, three child safety seat and safety belt inspection campaigns have been organised at selected LOTOS service stations in the Pomerania region. Also, the ‘Stay safe – It's good to be alive!’ theme seminars have been held in Gdańsk, Słupsk and Chojnice.
